What is EVS?

EVS (European voluntary service) is an opportunity to spend upon a year as a volunteer in a hosting organisation abroad.
For the volunteer as well as for the hosting organisation it is an opportunity to gain lots of new experiences and knowledges, to get to know other culture, the way of life, language and habits.
The volunteer gets paid accommodation, the travel expenses to hosting organisation and back, insurance, food and pocket money. The pocket money is variable country to country and averages 120 Euro.
Hosting organizations are normaly NGOs, local authorities, organizations working with children and youth, and others.
The EVS usually runs in social, environmental, cultural or sport fields.
It is alway non-profit, unpaid work, which is focused not only on helping the hosting organisation, but also on development of volunteers knowledges and experiences. The volunteer should never bear the full responsibility, but should get the assistence and support from the hosting organisation in order to ensure the development of the volunteers skills.
EVS is running in the framework of the EU´s „Youth in action“ programme. For running of the programme (therefore also for EVS) is in each country responsible the National Agancy. The National agency is accrediting every sigle organisation wanting to participate in EVS (for hosting or sending of volunteers),in order to ensure the organisation offers the volunteer a good quality hosting place and sufficient support.

The European database on EVS

All organisations located in Programme Countries and South East Europe that are interested in sending or hosting EVS volunteers, or in coordinating an EVS project need first to be accredited. Accreditation is given on the basis of an Expression of Interest submitted to National Agencies or SALTO South East Europe (for details on the accreditation process, please refer to the Youth in Action Programme Guide

This database contains information on all the organisations that are accredited for EVS. Each organisation is presented through a short description, its motivation and EVS experience, the themes of work and contact details. It also informs if the organisation offers possibilities for young people with fewer oppportunities.

In addition, for all accredited host organisations, you find a description of the project environment, activities and volunteer profiles.
